Taxas Holdem Rules - the most popular poker variation of all
Learn to play the most popular game of holdem poker:
First round: A new table of poker is opened by the first person that joins the game, which automatically becomes the dealer, and the next player is the one posting the blind bet. Each round of the game starts with moving the button to the next player in clockwise direction. The player next to the dealer posts the blind bet which is an amount equal to half of the lowest bet.
The player left to the small blind, needs to post the big blind, equal to the lowest bet. In some scenarios, it is possible that more than one player would post the big blind, for example, when the game as already started and when a new player joined the table. In this case, the new player would have the possibility to post the big blind bet in the start of the next hand or wait to his turn (when the dealer button reaches him).
All the blinds in the texas holdem version of the game are considered real bets, and the players posting them have the possibility to check, call raise or fold when the bet comes back to them.
With the posting of the blind bets all the players receive their hole cards. In holdem variation, each player receives two cards and then the first round of bets begins. The player left to the player who had posted the big blind, is the one that starts the bet in the round.
At this point of the game, each player places his first round of bets. These bets are configured as the lower limit of the table betting scheme. For example, in Holdem $10/$20, the value of each bet is $10 in the first round. When it is said that the bets are limited to $10, it means that the single bet amount limit is $10 and the amount of a "raise" is $20 (including the additional bet and a call on the previous player's bet).
The bets are placed in accordance with the game options: bet, call and raise. Each player can then also fold his hand. These options are available to each player depending on the option taken by the previous player. The first player (left of the big blind) can act (in the first round) by betting, calling or raising. The next players in line can call or raise.
Call - Placing a bet similar to the the previous player's bet. Raise - Request to higher the bet.
Each player taking part in the game, needs to place an equal or an higher bet from his previous player's bet. The bet is continued until all the players place a similar bet in the table's pot. There is a limit to the amount and count of bets that a player can place.
With the end of the first round, the 3 community cards are given out (Called the "Flop"). These cards are displayed to all players.
Second round - after the flop and in every round of betting the first player on the left of the dealer button starts to play.
